Cherish

Cherish

By Helen Danforth | | 0 comments
Cherish is a special collection, as Marie has curated the collection from 12 of her favourite designs from past collections. All have been knitted in Marie's British Breeds yarn and have been recoloured - some with different colour orders to the original designs and some of the garment shapes have been changed in some way. Four designs are knitted in the round and eight designs are knitted flat. All the flat knitted designs can be knitted in the round with the addition of steek stitches at the side seams and armholes. Her beautiful palette of colours was further enhanced with...

PetiteKnit Double Sunday

PetiteKnit Double Sunday

By Helen Danforth | | 0 comments
This is another wonderful collaboration between Sandnes Garn and the Danish designer behind PetiteKnit. It a heavier version of their popular Sunday yarn, aptly named Double Sunday. We don't carry the original fingering weight Sunday yarn as we have chosen to carry Knitting for Olive Merino. We were looking for a washable DK weight merino and this fits the bill perfectly! Double Sunday is 100% merino wool, soft next to the skin and perfect for baby clothes but also a good choice for a basic sweater that you might wear often. You may machine wash it at 30 degrees on a wool cycle, even though...

Hedgehog Fibres Tweedy

Hedgehog Fibres Tweedy

Hedgehog Tweedy and Tweedy Noir is intriguing Tweed yarn where the coloured bits are their own hand-dyed waste - the ties that they take off the hand dyed skeins. They diligently collect the ties and found a mill that could process them, which means re-carding, blending and spinning into yarn again.  This resulted in a lovely taupe, grey-ish tweed yarn with colourful speckles.  We love how neutral it is with a colourful bit here and there. It comes in this neutral colourway and a black version called Tweedy Noir and it's just calling for sweaters and cardigans. We applaud their attempt...

We have another incredible new yarn in stock! Nua Sport is a blend of merino, yak, and linen, specially designed by Carol Feller.  Each of these fibres contributes something special to create an amazing yarn blend. Merino provides a soft, squishy, and versatile base. Yak adds a unique silkiness to the yarn that your fingers will simply love. Finally, linen adds strength and durability. Nua is non-superwash, which creates a lighter yarn with a bit more bounce, making blocking easier and helping projects (especially garments) to hold their shape nicely. It is also a perfect weight; light enough to do...

Myak Tibetan Yarn

By Helen Danforth | | 0 comments
We have found another beautiful line of yarn to add to our curated collection! Myak yarns are made from the soft undercoat of baby yaks and wool of an ancient breed of Tibetan sheep grazing on the high altitude pastures of the Tibetan Plateau.  Myak work with the nomadic herders of the Tibetan Plateau and have learned to appreciate their traditions and respect their way of life and work. This cooperative contributes towards the future of the nomadic population, which is one of the most ancient in the world.  The collection of the baby yak fibers is done through combing...

Brooklyn Tweed Dapple

By Helen Danforth | | 0 comments
Dapple is Brooklyn Tweed's first wool and cotton blend. Pure organic cotton from Texas and 20.7-micron Merino wool from Colorado combine in a soft woolen-spun yarn appropriate for any season. The unique nature of the spinning and dyeing process creates subtle variations of colour and texture throughout each lot for dappled, tonal colour effects. You can create rich, monochromatic fades using the range of saturations or choose an allover blend of tones by arranging the skeins randomly.
