If you want to make the perfect little Easter bunnies, try the Little Cotton Rabbits patterns by Julie Williams. She has step by step instructions and photos and I was certainly not able to stop at one!  Then there are her mice, bears, elephants... We are open our usual store hours over the Easter weekend and Knit Night is cancelled on Monday evening.   

Do you need some Spring knitting inspiration? The new Churchmouse patterns are in the store and we have some perfect yarns to go along with them. Knit the Quintessential Cardigan in Kidsilk Haze held double - yummy! Or the Pinking Shears Scarf in Isager Spinni or Shibui Reed and the Polka Dot Scarf in Kidsilk Haze or Isager Alpaca 1. My favourite is the Sleeveless Slipover which can be knit in one of four lengths, and is a perfect addition to your summer wardrobe, knit in Shibui Reed.

We have some new options for those who are wishing to learn a new technique or get back on track with a knitting project. Sign up for our "Beyond Beginner" class if you prefer a regularly scheduled class where you can get support while you knit any project. If you prefer a more one-on-one approach, then you can arrange a two hour "Just For You" private lesson. For those with an unpredictable schedule, we have "Knitting 911", a drop in session on Wed afternoons between 1pm & 3pm. For further details on all these options, check out the classes page.

Join designer Sylvia McFadden and learn to knit her beautiful Waiting for Rain shawl. This shawl uses her unique technique of charted lace short rows. Sylvia will talk about how she developed this technique and how you can modify it. The Heart On My Sleeve ebook is a charity project in support of the Against Malaria Foundation. Nine designers, including our local Alexa Ludeman of Tin Can Knits, have worked together to create a beautiful collection of simple and satisfying yoke sweaters. Many yarn companies generously provided yarn for the projects and when you buy the ebook, $16.80 of the $18 US purchase price goes to the charity.

The much anticipated second issue of Making Magazine is here at the store! Making No.2/Fauna includes knit designs from some of your favourite designers, as well as sewing, quilting, embroidery, cross stitch projects and even recipes. The presentation and photography make this a collectible publication. Time to curl up, with a cup of tea and choose your next project!

"Lollipop" is a collection of easy to follow patterns for modern baby knits. There are seven beautiful designs, from a super cute hat to a gorgeous cabled raglan sweater. All the designs are constructed seamlessly, making them quick and easy to knit. Local designer Raquel Oliveira will be at the store on Saturday Dec 17 from 11 am to 2 pm to share her trunk show and sign her book.

Sylvia McFadden, of Softsweater Knits, has created this unique collection of 6 shawls, including her extremely popular Waiting For Rain shawl. There are beautiful photos to inspire you, followed by easy to read instructions. There are even instructions on how to design your very own Waiting For Rain shawl, using her innovative short row technique to create beautiful lace inserts. Shawl Joy is 100% Canadian made and printed on 100% recycled paper.  

Alexa Ludeman of Tin Can Knits will be at the store on Saturday Nov 12 from 11 am to 1 pm to sign their latest book and share their trunk show. "Mad Colour" has designs which are meant for playing with colour. Patterns for 5 garments (sized baby to big, of course) and 13 accessories, will have you diving into your stash to try new colour combinations. There are some great designs for those new to colourwork, slip stitch, stripes and intarsia. 

If whimsical colourwork mittens are your thing, then welcome to the magical world of SpillJane mittens. This book has tutorials, complete with photos and handy tips for knitting mittens with fun motifs such as cupcakes, fish and gnomes. Ancient Arts worked with a mill in South Africa to salvage fibre used to prime the mill machines and blend it to create this fantastic multi-purpose 4 ply yarn. It is a blend of 49% wool, 34% mohair, 11% nylon, 4% acrylic & 2% silk and hand dyed in Canada. With a generous 437 yards per 100g skein it is perfect for lace work and of course socks!

The popular Tosh Merino Light is available as 52 yard mini skeins, called Unicorn Tails.  These little twists are perfect for granny squares, hexipuffs or accents and come in 30 of your favourite Madelinetosh shades. Softyak DK is a new Rowan yarn for Spring/Summer 2016. It is a blend of yak, cotton and nylon in a chain structure DK weight. It is very soft, with a slight sheen but durable and machine washable. A perfects trans seasonal yarn.
